I have a deep love for the Monterey Peninsula. Someone brilliant said to write what you know, and that’s why my stories are mainly based there. I lived on the Peninsula for seventeen years before a job opportunity moved us to the Sacramento area in 2004. I can’t express how grateful I was to live in Carmel. The beach, the quiet community, the wonderful restaurants and the occasional celebrity sighting all added to the novelty of living in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
My writing career was really a fluke. I had never written anything creatively and decided to try my hand at it with an online writing contest. I wrote four entries for that contest and even though I didn’t win—far from it—I realized how much I loved the process. Creating characters and fleshing out a plot became part of my everyday routine while I developed and strengthened my writing. I’m an avid reader and when I’m not pouring my heart out on a Word doc, I’m usually immersed in a novel, dissecting the writer’s style and trying to learn a thing or two about what makes a good story.
In living my ordinary life in the suburbs, with my ordinary kids, I have found that there is something heroic in fighting the everyday battles we each face. It is those struggles, those little acts of heroism, that I choose to write about.
I hope you enjoy my stories,
